Black Powa: biomimetics, performance and efficiency underwater
Our fin tips are a case of biomimetics : the outline is derived from the facing beaks of the dodo ( Raphus cucullatus ) and the functional purpose is informed by the bottlenose dolphin ( Tursiops truncatus ) fluke to improve thrust efficiency. Representation of two upper dodo beaks facing each other which inspired the tip outline Our twin-lobed fin tip is designed to shed coherent vortex rings and a focused momentum jet.
